Are You Using the Right Channel?

When it comes to social media nowadays there are so many platform options, over 400 to be precise, so many that you may find yourself questioning which platform is best for you and your business. With so many options it’s easy to feel sucked into thinking you need them all, don’t worry, you don’t. You really only need to use the platforms that your target markets are using, and the platforms that will best show off your product;  You wouldn’t use Instagram to show off a service based industry. This may seem like a clear answer but Brandwatch.com providers further insight into why there is no right or wrong answer for big question, but what should I use?

It’s clear Facebook is the largest social media platform right now, and with over 1 billion users, it’s not going anywhere any time soon. But there are other other platforms to consider. Social sites like Instagram, Pintrest and Vine are great, but have specific demographics, that can be explored.  With a smaller and more focused user base it is easier to hone in on your target audience. If you’re an avid follower of our blog (why wouldn’t you be?) we discussed in our last podcast that Facebook’s organic reach is plummeting.  So focusing your efforts specifically on a specific demographic is essential because your voice is only going so far you need to assess where your online presence will be most beneificial by analyzing demographics and platform usage. Take for example this chart depicting where the word “champagne” is mentioned / tagged most often.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that a company promoting champagne should spend a majority of their budget on Twitter, making a chart like this for your industry could prove key to spending your money the right way  Okay, so you’re probably thinking what does this have to do with me? The answer is everything! Proper Planning Prevents Wasting Time. You need to assess where your online presence is the greatest, keep in mind that percentage is not split evenly. Good Luck and Have Fun
