Sean V. Bradley,CEO of Dealer Synergy wrote an article for Auto Success Magazine about Why BDC's fail. A BDC can handle unsold showroom traffic, data mining, campaign management, equity mining, expiring warranties, aftermarket products, special finance, Internet sales, phone sales, cross promotional marketing, fleet, etc. One of the main reasons that BDC doesn't work is because most dealerships put untrained people together to do everything. Your Internet department should not be a big cluster of people doing a bunch of different things. You should scale into the BDC, and start with the biggest opportunity to be successful. The best thing for you to do is to start with the Internet because 92-99% of Americans go online before stepping into a dealership.

Your Internet department should be your anchor. Secondly, the Internet is predominately a phone sale. Email sells the phone, phone sells the appointment, and the appointment builds the relationship, product, presentation, demo, drive, and delivery. Your Internet department should be trained in the Inbound and Outbound phone call process, Qualifications, Objections and Rebuttals. If they are trained in these fields, they should be able to take inbound phone ups as well. So, the anchor of a BDC should start with Internet leads and inbound phone ups. After, you could increase to the next module. Depending on what your goals are, will dictate what module you implement next. Stop playing checkers with your BDC, and start playing chess.

CEO of Dealer Synergy, Sean V. Bradley CSP, typically hosts Make Money Mondays. This week, a special guest Chris Sondesky hosts Make Money Mondays. Chris is an internet director at Cherry Hill Triplex. From his centralized BDC he has 400+ units sold a month and $1 million in gross. How does he do this? He puts emotion back into the process. Customers cannot see, smell, or feel the car online. The key is in making customers feel good and gaining their trust. If a customer trusts you, they will do business with you, refer people and want to come back. You can even ask for reviews because you've earned them. This emotion becomes your closing tool. Make the experience you have discussed happening in the showroom, come to life. Show more emotions, make more sales.

Dealer of the Month-January 2015

I am proud to announce January's Dealer of the Month award winner, Chris Sondesky. Chris is the Internet/BDC/Marketing Director of the Cherry Hill Triplex in Cherry Hill, NJ.  Chris has learned every aspect of the trade, having been in the automotive industry for 15 years. He has had multiple positions over the years including technician, manager of sales department operations as a GSM and GM, to later building one of the biggest single point Internet Departments/BDC’s on the east coast for huge franchised new automobile dealerships.

Chris has come a long way since his early days in the industry. Over the past 5 years he has focused on the digital aspect of selling cars, with his 7 franchises, Kia, Mitsubishi, Dodge,Chrysler, Jeep, Ram and Fiat. With the help of his General Manager they developed in depth marketing strategies to master the online consumer. As this process continued his staff began to receive 3,000 internet leads monthly!

As of 2014, Chris took his skills to an entirely new level, selling 400+ units per month and achieving $1 million in gross. Chris has become a master of internet sales for dealerships. Recently, Chris stated, “On average, our BDC/Internet Team, a very talented group of Customer Service Reps and Internet Managers, generates approximately 50% of our showroom traffic, all by appointment, leading to 55% of our sold units. Since 2010, Internet deals have closed at a higher percentage than the other half of our traffic, and for higher gross profit. We've continued this trend, now on our 5th year of double digit growth.”

In an interview conducted by CEO of Dealer Synergy, Sean V. Bradley, CSP Chris shares his thoughts on CRM, Managers, Internet Directors, Leads, Phone ups and more. Chris was able to gain all this success because he feels people are the most important factor. He notes that personality is everything and he has never hired an employee based off of skill. It is all about being fit for a team. He believes anyone can do the job with a strong training process in place.

Chris is here to tell you that you CAN make money off of internet customers. Internet deals close at a higher closing ratio and a higher gross profit than 40-50% of the rest of his business.  He believes your response time should be “right now”. Answering “right now” actually is not even fast enough. Chris believes that timeliness and having a proper process in place for your team can make a huge difference in your internet selling process. It is easier to bridge the gap between showroom sales and internet sales than you might think.

Chris recommended that if you have a customer coming in make sure you have the vehicle ready, enough gas for a test drive and wait until they get into the store to assess which sales person would work well with them.

Bottom line, the key to success and a solid close is to let the customer know that their time is valuable to you.  Whether you are in the showroom or handling Internet sales, you are the same team.

Watch the interviews provided to learn more tips to Chris’ success.  Like Chris, you too can become one of the biggest single point Internet Departments/Business Development new automobile dealerships. Congratulations again Chris! Your future is looking bright.

Sean V. Bradley, CEO of Dealer Synergy talks about "How to Bridge the Gap between the Internet Department, and the Showroom Sales department. There should not be any segregation between the internet department / BDC and the showroom sales department. There is ONE team; the dealership team. The internet department team are not secretaries, receptionists, or handymen. The Internet team's purpose is to drive traffic to your dealership. Show the Internet department some respect and gratitude for giving you opportunities to do business! Now, the Internet department needs the Showroom sales department in order to close the deal! How can you work together? The showroom sales department should use their expertise to teach the Internet department more about the vehicles. There should always be sales people in the Internet department to help assist leads. Work together for the most positive outcome!

"It is the end of the year!" This Monday, Sean talks about the end of the year, and how people are becoming complacent with mediocrity and making excuses. You need to stop making excuses! You must take control of your destiny. Don't make the wrong assumptions because of the holiday season, the weather, etc. If your internet leads are the same but you are making less phone calls and appointments, then the problem is with you and your department! Look at yourself, and your dealership before you start blaming other things. If anything, you could use the holidays to make a sale! If you don't have opportunities to do business then you need to work your leads harder!

I'm a big fan of putting the power of targeting in the hands of the dealer. We're not one of those who believe that we know best about our clients' market, demographics, and customers and we try to put our expertise in social and search to play with their understanding of the area and their business to guide us to success.

The improved sourcing, data collection, and extraction of information about the markets gives us and dealers the ability to dive much deeper than ever before into understanding where and how to market.

We know the tactics. You know your area. Now, let's allow the data to enter the mix and we should have a winning combination.

We're starting to get pretty enamored with companies like String Automotive. After sitting on a few customer calls during their market analysis meetings, we've learned so much about how to spend the money and where to focus it. It has opened my eyes to this "third wheel" in a way that I never imagined. Perhaps there is more to data than just what we know mixed with what our clients' know.

Keep in mind, we are not a reseller for String Automotive and I don't want this to turn into a love fest, but I do want to highlight the importance of going much further into the numbers than I've ever imagined. That's the beauty of analytics mixed with DMS data mixed with everything else at our disposal (Polk, Experian, DMV - the data sources go on and on).

Regardless of whether you use us, String, or any vendor out there, I strongly encourage you to start going further with the numbers. For example, by cross-referencing your advertising spend by zip code with your own buyer data and comparing that to DMV data, you can see where the opportunities lie. Let's say you sold 5 Altimas last month in a zip code. This might sound great for some dealers, but what if there were 13 total sold last month based upon DMV data and you're the closest dealership to the zip code. Wouldn't that be disappointing? Shouldn't you either adjust your marketing message, your advertising styles, or your budget to try to make up the difference and start dominating in that area?

The data is cleaner than it's ever been, but the methods of analyzing the data have remained stagnant. It's companies like String that have opened our eyes to the possibility that we can make smarter decisions by letting the numbers guide us.

Facebook Offers For Auto Dealers

As an auto dealer, you are probably used to hearing that you should be on Facebook. It gives your brand more visibility, it's an opportunity to connect with customers, and so on. But you might also be frequently reminded that, when it comes to selling cars, Facebook is anything but effective. Experts claim that only a small percentage of car shoppers use social media as part of the car buying process. But what if there was a way to change that?

There might be a real solution, and it's called Facebook Offers. Read on to find out more about this new tool, and how it can bring more sales to your dealership.

How Do Facebook Offers Work?

ddpavumba/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

ddpavumba/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Facebook Offers is one of the ad tools offered by Facebook to owners of business pages. Currently, Facebook is lagging behind Google when it comes to online ads, so Facebook Offers is clearly a way to gain a bigger share of the market.

The way Facebook Offers work is very simple. Once your dealership's page has at least 50 likes, you can create an offer, which is exclusive to the people you choose to receive it. It's easy to think of it as a modern version of а direct mail pamphlet, which comes with a 20% discount coupon, for example. You upload a photo with a description of the offer, and you can either put a limit on how many people can claim it or you can make the offer limitless. Then you pick a budget, and depending on the dollar amount you enter, you can get an approximation of how many people will be reached by the ad.

Target the Right Audience for Best Results

But here is by far the best thing about Facebook Offers. What makes Facebook Offers especially suitable for your dealership is that you can be very specific not just about the number of people, but also the type of people who will receive your offer.

Facebook will give you a very specific set of criteria to fill out, with which you can target your specific buyer persona, so your money won't go waste. For example, you can make your offer available only to people with a particular make or model of car, people who have driven the same car for a certain number of years, people who tend to go to dealership with a certain frequency, or many other specifications. Because Facebook is partnering with data brokering companies, the available criteria reach far and wide and can get so specific, that you'd be surprised how useful the results will be! And you don't have to worry about your clients' privacy, because the algorithm works with anonymous data, without revealing their personal information.

How to Use Facebook Offers in Your Dealership: 3 Strategies

digitalart/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Once a Facebook user likes your offer, they can “claim” it, after which Facebook will send them an email containing instructions on how to redeem it at your dealership. In order to tempt the maximum number of people with your offers, make sure you come up with something creative. Here are just a few suggestions:

  • Target people with cars older than 5 years, and make your discounted cars available only to them through a Facebook Offer. People buy a lot of new cars -- even though not all of them plan to, a tempting offer often makes them change their minds.
  • Offer to do a routine check for free, since your target buyers' vehicles probably have a high mileage by now. How about people who tend to visit service shops rarely? Send them an offer explaining the benefits of regularly changing a car's oil, along with a 25 percent discount if they come to your dealership for an oil change? Or the air filter? The possibilities are many, you just need to be creative.
  • Accompany each offer with a curious educational fact to make it more appealing. Or make a contest on your Facebook page, awarding a Facebook Offer to the winner. And this will have the added benefit of increasing engagement with your page.

Conclusion

Facebook Offers is definitely a good way to harness the power of social media for more than just brand-building. If you are not feeling confident about running ad campaigns, you can always use the services of a dealership consultant.

Have you used Facebook Offers yet? Was your campaign successful?

Whether you are a football fan or not, unless you have been living in a cave you have probably heard a lot about Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow.  What Tebow and Manziel have in common is that both are former Heisman Trophy winning college quarterbacks.  What they both also have in common is that they are both very much hated and reviled by so many.

From the outside looking in, they are polar opposites in many ways. Tebow is publicly very religious and Manziel is not. Tebow is outwardly extremely humble and Manziel is viewed as being extremely cocky and even arrogant. Tebow apparently lives a very straight arrow life and Manziel has had his share of documented days of partying. Tebow never reacts to his detractors and Manziel seems to give the proverbial middle finger to his. Tebow quotes scripture and Manziel plays rap. Tebow appears humble while Manziel seems to flaunt his ability with a little in your face style.

Manziel and Tebow outwardly opposite in every way but yet both share in common massive doses of venom by the media, coaches, some players and large amounts of the general public. Tebow the humble, virtuous Christian is hated and Manziel the cocky, partying one man show is hated as well. Actually, I am not sure which one seems to be condemned and hated the most. Seems to be a conundrum doesn’t it.

In my opinion, the answer in this does not lie in the characteristics of either Manziel or Tebow or what they do or don’t do. The answer to this conundrum lies with people who are constantly judging others. Often these people judge them but inwardly are wishing they could be more like them.  They are not really hating on Manziel or Tebow. Instead, they are expressing their hatred of themselves and their own perceived shortcomings expressed outwardly towards Manziel and Tebow. Haters hate because that is what they do.

Don’t be a hater and stop judging others. Look at yourself and judge yourself. Work on yourself and let others be. Success and happiness is always an inside out job.
