Day 4 of my on-site training  from Dealer Synergy. What can I say? When I first saw Sean V. Bradley on the websites, Automotive Internet Sales, YouTube etc. I was in awe, shocked, overwhelmed and a bit..scared. Who is this young guy, fronting like he's all that and then some. Millionaire mogul, motivational speaker, music industry entrepreneur, and he owns so many businesses, on covers of magazines, internationally renown speaker and member of NSA and Covey trained..Omggg too many to name!
But when I actually met him, and over the two days that he was here, I realized that he is every bit of everything I read and saw of him online.. BUT, he is knowledgeable, kind, HUMBLE and sooo passionate about ALL aspects of his life, and he doesn't look down on anyone! He motivates, teaches and encourages you to do your best! I was in awe to meet and shake the hand of a millionaire, but now I'm in even more awe because he is so humble, and willing to help anyone achieve their dreams and be the best they can be.
I pretty much have the same background as him and I felt an enormous amount of relief, when he spoke about himself, his background, where he has been, how he became what he is now, gave me hope that I too can achieve my dreams. He has inspired me so much in the short time he was here with us. I just needed someone to guide me. He said something profound, that made me pause, well he said many things, but two things that got me was: he doesn't compromise, he comes to a agreement with whomever, so everyone can have a win-win situation, one doesn't have to feel like they lost a little to agree with one another, and he also said, there was a reason I was guided to come here to RC Lacy, because if I didn't accept this job. I wouldn't have ever met Sean  and I wouldn't have ever been motivated.
I have been feeling lost, drowning, but I feel like Sean is my buoy and if I follow him and his advice, I believe I can achieve everything I ever wanted..and more! I know he came to us to teach us about the automotive business and how to be a better BD Agent, but I feel like whatever he taught us, It can be utilized in life, and I will use it in my life! I hope I get a chance to attend another one of his workshop.
If you are feeling low, and feel like life has nothing more to offer or you think you have done everything possible in life and you still cant achieve anything, I beg you, go to one of Sean V. Bradley's seminars, and I can guarantee you 100% you will come away feeling motivated and KNOWING and DOING everything to achieve everything you always wanted. GUARENTEED!
Thank you Sean...

To evaluate means to ascertain or fix the value or worth of something. To examine and judge carefully. Another word for evaluate is appraise. Now that's a word I'm familiar with. Appraise! In the car industry we use this word when we appraise or evaluate a customer's trade. What are we doing when we do this? Besides making our customers upset about what we appraise their trade for, we are examining, evaluating and looking over the trade carefully to see the condition, mileage and real time value of it. The appraisal shows us the trade as it is valued in the condition we see it. Now, if the trade has a dent in one door, is over mileage 20,000 miles and has a cracked bumper, the value of the trade will decrease. There will be deductions made for each area. But if the bumper is not cracked, the mileage is under by 5,000 miles and there are no dents at all on the vehicle the trade will be valued higher. The appraisal reveals to the one evaluating it and the one who owns it not only the actual value of it in the condition it's in now but also the reasons why it's worth what it's worth.

We do appraisals for people every day, but what about ourselves? Now, you might be thinking, "I don't need to do an appraisal on my car because I'm not trading it in!" But I'm not talking about appraising your car. I'm talking about you. Have you done an appraisal on yourself lately? Have you pulled out the "Self Appraisal" and took time to evaluate yourself? What about the "Life Appraisal"? Have you taken time to evaluate, examine and look over your life to see the condition, mileage and real time value of it? Have we been so busy working and evaluating things for everybody else that we've let ourselves' fall apart and we haven't had time to take proper care of us? Take the time to evaluate yourself today so you can fix and improve the areas that have caused you to lose self-value in your life. Here is a sample "Self Appraisal" for you to do right now:

Am I happy with the overall condition of myself?

Yes                   No

If no state why...

Is there any exterior damage?

Yes                   No

If yes list defects...

Is there any interior damage?

Yes                   No

If yes, list areas affected and the cause of damage...

Do I need any bodywork?

Yes                   No

If yes list areas...

Have I been in any accidents?

Yes                   No

If yes list areas...

This is just a sample but I trust you get the idea of how you can use this to evaluate your present reality whatever it may be. There are many other types of appraisals you can put together also. Here are a few more to consider:

  • Leadership Appraisal
  • Work Appraisal
  • Emotional Appraisal
  • Physical Appraisal
  • Spiritual Appraisal
  • Social Appraisal
  • Management Appraisal
  • Sales Appraisal

Now if we were to just do an evaluation and leave it at that than we'd all be depressed and in pretty bad shape. However, the evaluation is necessary to expose to us our current condition right now so we can fix, correct and adjust the value of what we see. This is where education comes in.

Education

To educate means to provide with knowledge or training in a particular area or for a particular purpose. Once we have done our evaluation now we can fix, correct and adjust the necessary areas we have discovered.

"The great aim of education is not knowledge but action."

Herbert Spencer

Once we receive the knowledge and information we gather we are to than act correspondingly on the understood knowledge to make the necessary changes found in our evaluation. This is true education.

Knowledge + Corresponding Action = Education. When we are truly educated in an area we are no longer ignorant in that area. We have the know how to fix, change and adjust ourselves into a higher place than where we were without our education. This is called elevation.

Elevation

To elevate is to move or raise to a higher place or position; lift up. To raise to a higher state, rank, or office; exalt; promote. The end result of

Evaluation + Education = Elevation. This is always the result of someone who practices these principles in any area of life. Whether it is the workplace, the sale, the close, life, leadership, management, relationships or anything else this formula will hold true.

As you focus on making it a habit to evaluate and educate yourself in every area of life you will experience being elevated to new positions, promotions and higher levels of responsibility.

Orkut

For the last 7 years, I've been watching Google very closely. Sure, they are in the news all the time so it's not something that's exactly hard. What has been more challenging is keeping up with their long-standing obsession with social media and understanding why it's so.

They have some big wins (YouTube, Google+) as well as dozens of losses (Orkut and just about everything else that they've touched that smells social). They looked at Facebook before Microsoft jumped on first. They took a long, hard look at Digg during the social news site's heyday, then suddenly bailed out the moment they opened the books and saw the duct tape coding underlying the site.

Google knows two things very well about social media:

  1. If they have any chance of truly transcending beyond technology to gain a true understanding of intent and desires, they need to get a ton of social data.
  2. They haven't been able to crack into the type of data that Facebook has about people.

Google+ is similar to people, but does not hold the attention of its users. It will get there. It has to. It's Google's last, best hope for getting this data.

The reason they want it so badly is because just about everything they rely upon (search, advertising dollars, fulfilling the hopes and expectations of their customers, just to name a few) as a company would be exponentially improved by understanding true sentiment. They have all of the data that people want. They just don't have an easy way to perfect the delivery and usage of this data.

With this understanding, it's much easier to anticipate what Google will do with their advertising platform as well as their search engine. They are close to perfecting the latter, believe it or not. Most will point to the rapid pace in which Google makes changes to their search algorithm, but that's not an accurate characterization. They made major changes with Panda and Penguin. They made a minor (and completely overblown) change with their recent Hummingbird update. What we see now is close to the end game. Now, all they need to do is tweak it and wait for the next breakthrough.

They have achieved at plateau. Rather than major algorithm changes, they are now in the mode of perfecting the results by turning knobs rather than making the major changes that have hit every year since 2007. The holistic view of Google search that allows optimization to be broken down into the three major components (content, inbound links, and social signals) will not change until the reach a tipping point of understanding social data.

What's the point of all this? That part is harder to explain. For years, I've been reading and experimenting the best ways to market on Google. Now that they've reached a plateau, the anticipation game has changed. Those of us who try to stay on top of current algorithm trends while looking ahead to the changes can sit back for a while. What we see is what we're going to get for a while. It's all about the three components. However, there is one thing that hasn't manifested itself yet that technically changes everything.

The primary reason that Google wants to understand social data and personal sentiment is because they are on a quest for quality beyond the empirical data itself. The data is as good as it's going to get through pure technology. They cannot advance the understanding of sentiment any further until a breakthrough. Today, the great search marketer will be doing two things:

  1. Put out quality content with the proper mix of high-quality inbound links and social signals to improve rankings today.
  2. Put out quality content with the proper mix of high-quality inbound links and social signals with the understanding that once they achieve their goal of understanding sentiment, the quality component will make the search rankings soar.

As you can see, it's an approach that will kill two birds with one stone. There are challenges with the data that Google cannot reconcile today. For example, if someone wants to find a phone number for a business, they might search, click through to a website, find the number, and leave. This takes seconds and technically from Google's current perspective this wasn't a successful endeavor, especially if the searcher then clicks back to the search results and goes to a different site. Even though the mission was accomplished by the searcher, Google will count this as a bounce and a short time on site.

On the other hand, someone might be looking for something in particular, land on a page from a Google search, click around trying to find what they wanted, get frustrated when they can't find it, and leave. From Google's perspective, this was a good visit. From the searcher's perspective, it was an utter failure.

This is the type of sentiment that Google wants to understand. They want to know if you like what they presented to you. They want to know if their information was useful to you. They want to know if a website they "recommended" by having it listed first in the search engine helped you achieve a goal. Today, they can only guess. Tomorrow, they may be able to find out with a near certainty. At that point, we'll see the next major upgrade in search. One might even call it "quantum search" since it would probably take a quantum computer for them to make sense of all that data.

Thankfully for them, they're building a quantum computer right now.

Are You Set Up For A Successful Weekend?

So as you head into the weekend, are you setting the stage to be successful? Are we reaching people how they like to be naturally reached? When you think about the most common and effective ways people communicate today; text messaging, social media, social media messaging and cell phones; are we ignoring these avenues only focusing on sending emails & calling home and work numbers only or are we engaging people the way they naturally communicate. Here is a friendly reminder for you to get ready for the weekend so you can sell more cars, more profitably, more often!

  • Put glue on the appointments by confirming them.
  • Secure cell phone numbers when setting the appointments.
  • Utilize social media messaging, cell phones and text messaging to confirm future appointments as well as to reset missed appointments.
  • Work every deal as creatively as possible. Don't let anyone go until you've tried every option. (cash, lease, financing, extended terms, one pay leasing, trade, co-buyer)
  • Remember to focus on the majors and not be distracted by the minors.
  • Keep first things first.
  • Be yourself.
  • Be happy.
  • Be positive.
  • Be a team player.
  • Be a TEAM!
  • Give it your best!
  • Work Smart!
  • Work Hard!
  • Remember to smile - It increases your face value! : )
  • Always be thankful to your customers whether you sell them today or not. "Thank you for your business Mr. or Mrs.Customer! I truly appreciate you choosing me and allowing me the opportunity to serve you in your automotive needs. I understand there are a lot of dealers you could have chosen between where you live and here so Thank you for your business!" If they didn't buy, "Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work on this with you. I know we didn't come to an agreement yet, but I want you to know it was a pleasure to help you today and I appreciate the chance to earn your business in the future."
Have a great weekend!

Dealer Synergy- Anthony Alagona

Final day with Anthony and I have to say I am completely blown away by Dealer Synergy.  Anthony came in and ROCKED it! Other then Sean I don't think that I have ever met anyone as positive as Anthony.  Even after his horrible first night in the most disgusting hotel Anthony walked in with a smile on his face ready to teach us, that's the positive attitude I'm looking to have! I feel so much more confident with the scripts, and talking to customers on the phone.  Anthony is a great teacher and an awesome person.  Sad to see him leave but happy that he's leaving us with all of this information!!

Anthony Alagona, My Brother from Another Mother

For the past week I have been in training with the Dealer Synergy crew.  Sean V. Bradley blew us all away and there is no difference when it comes to the people he has working for him.  His long time friend and colleague, Anthony Alagona is here teaching us all the processes and techniques for making outstanding phone calls to prospective customers.  When one of us seems to be having a hiccup in our attempt to 'seal the deal' for the appointment, he politely interrupts the process without hesitation and confirms that appointment.  EVERY SINGLE TIME!  Is it magic? No.  It's dedication.

"YOUR PRESENCE IS YOUR POWER!"

That statement is definitely true when talking to customers on the phone, but even more so how it relates to Anthony.  His presence is powerful and memorable beyond measure, Just as much as Sean's.  We are all so grateful to have had this opportunity not only to be taught how to be successful but to be inspired in all aspects of our lives.

The reason why I titled this blog "Anthony Alagona, My Brother from Another Mother" was because I figured out that our home towns are just minutes from each other.  What a small world!  It gives me comfort knowing that someone who came from a similar background as me could be so successful and continue to strive for what he believes in.  What I can take from this experience is that I know now that everything is achievable.  It might sound cheesy or cliché but I truly believe it.

Thank you, Dealer Synergy.  I will never drink anything other than the 'Kool-Aid'!  If you all don't know what I'm talking about, figure it out and drink up.

I'm still in the middle of an intense training session that's two days down and three more to go.  Sean V. Bradley came in like a bat out of hell with zeal, excitement and vigor and laid it all out there for us to absorb.  Marketing, Customer Service, Sales, Internet Marketing, Phone Call Prospecting, Guerrilla Marketing...I could go on and on and on but I won't.  I'm sure you get the idea.
I now must evolve my train of thought to "Beginning with the End Result in Mind" meaning that with all facets of my life, personal and professional, I must begin with the image of the end of your life as the frame of reference by which everything else is measured.  We may be busy, we may be efficient, but we will only be effective if we begin with the end in mind.  That's truly deep and I like that.  It burns through my soul and this feeling came after just two days.
All methods of training should be like this.  How many people have you met that has inspired you to do more and to be more in less than 48 hours? Not many in my life.  It's refreshing to be educated by someone who lives, breathes and is passionate about what they can teach you.
This business is catered to the automotive industry but there's no way that you cannot apply what has been learned under Dealer Synergy's processes to all aspects of life.  I strongly recommend that you go on YouTube and look at some videos.  If you get a chance to attend a seminar or workshop and Dealer Synergy is involved; I practically command you to attend that event.  I still have three days left and I have NO IDEA what will happen next.  Good thing I like surprises.

---------------------

Now, it's the fifth and final day with Anthony Alagona and this guy is a master at his craft.  When you measure people on how they project their professional methodologies there is a bar, a standard if you will, and I believe that Anthony, Sean & Dealer Synergy are at the pinnacle of their game.  I don't know about you but everything I approach in life is represented by a "measuring stick".  I always need something to reach or even surpass and after today, Dealer Synergy has shown me how much I want to have.  They've taught me how NOT to worry about things which I cannot control.  How NOT to stress over situations that are completely out of my hands.  If I concentrate on things that I can control and influence like my thoughts, behaviors and attitudes, I WILL have more control in everything I do.  Keep in mind that I'm talking about an automobile marketing company.  I strongly suggest that you look into acquiring their services for training.  Go on YouTube and watch their videos.  You're already here, what are you waiting for?  Find the videos and just click play.  You WILL feel a difference and you WILL notice a burst of inspiration that is only comparable by chatting with your all-time favorite teacher.  I could give you the typical "They're a great company" fluff but that would be selling them short in the exact description.  It goes beyond typical.

Dealersynergy

My name is Chelsey Here at Lacy Ford Lincoln and Subaru in Catskill, NY. I have been working here for almost 5 weeks. This Internet Department has been working very hard this whole week training with Dealersynergy. When I started here, I was unsure about a handful of things on how the internet sales worked. I knew a little bit about dealerships but not a good amount. But when Sean and Anthony came here they answered a lot of my problems. They are a very good team and know what they are talking about. The time that Anthony has been here helping us on the phone with scripts has been GREAT. He showed us how to handle a bunch of different situations. I had a hard time with a customer I couldn't get him to answer the phone and terrible responses with email. Anthony jumped on the phone left a VM for him and he called us right back. Anthony did his thing and made the appointment, My jaw dropped, I was shocked on how he handled the customer. He made it look easy, not saying its hard just that I have had a hard time getting ahold and getting this guy to listen to me. Basically I am saying that this has been the best experience I have had in awhile and I took a lot of recordings and notes and I will take this advice and help to the top and use every piece that they gave me. Thank you for the help and we will do our best at showing how good we can be.

P.s. Anthony is the best haha

ALERT~ Dealership Fined $500K! - BEWARE

Pirated Software Puts Dealerships at Risk

Pirated Software
We found pirated software in over 90% of dealerships when we completed our free technology assessment. Using pirated software puts a dealership at legal and financial risk whether you know it's pirated or not.
BSA, The Software Alliance, is targeting dealerships for violations because of their deep pockets. Recently, one dealership was sentenced to pay a $500K fine PLUS $475K to make their software fully compliant with the current laws. This could have been avoided by putting technology standards in place and adhering to regular updates for a fraction of the cost.

As the #1 Information Technology provider for the automotive industry, we are here to help your dealership.

To avoid an expensive and time consuming technology disaster, contact us today to get a Complimentary Technology Assessment of your entire dealership. This assessment will look for anything that could potentially be a target or violation of the BSA and protect you from getting hit with major fines or penalties.

Fake It Till You Make It

You are who you decide to be at any given moment. It does not take money, a degree, a certain age, a certain appearance, tons of experience, knowing the right people, past success or any other qualifying factor that you may be currently using as a subconscious roadblock to your desired success. Your belief system creates your results both past and present. If your current belief system is not what it should be to support your success, you must fake it, till you make it.

If you currently don’t appear to be on the path that will create the level of success in the form you desire, you must begin to identify the mental programming that is limiting your success before you can change your resulting limiting actions.

You must pay close attention to your inner dialogue when you write goals or have thoughts about anything you desire. When thinking of your goals, if you repeatedly think of the specific reasons of how and why your goal may be hard to obtain, you are creating the “When-Then Syndrome.” Your subconscious identifies your current programming that tells you that for X to occur you must first have Y. If that is the case, your current mental programming is limited and will not allow you to break through your current barriers to further success.

Write down the first twenty mental images or messages you heard or were taught about money. When closely examined, most of the images and messages remembered will be limited, negative, and fear based. Those negative messages and images have taken a life of their own and have been accepted in your subconscious as absolute truths. To increase money, you must identify your current limiting messages and rewrite the messages to create accepted new truths.

Every person you come into contact with tries to define you based upon his/her own thoughts and beliefs. Your workplace is full of people with their own limiting mental programming that want to define you in a way that makes them feel better about themselves. People will create images such as “you are just lucky” or “the favorite of the boss” or “a weak sales person”. So often you act in your work environment in a role based upon the images and messages accepted by your subconscious. Unfortunately, your subconscious accepts all images and messages without filtering. However, you can overwhelm the negative messages with your own positive messages. Your conscious mind will choose and react to the strongest messages being given to it. Don’t allow others to create your destiny based upon their own limited beliefs.

Your subconscious can act as an automatic responder in a positive form just as it can negatively. You must bombard your mind with positive and repetitive images for your conscious mind to react with positive messages. Read and listen to the material that will support you in creating the images you desire, while reducing and eliminating the negative influences you encounter from relatives, co-workers, and the news. You create your own reality. It’s your responsibility to choose the right sources of information to saturate your brain.

To start manifesting your desires, you must become clear on your goals. Write what you want in present tense using vivid details of your emotions and thoughts at the time of obtaining those goals. The repetitive conditioning of your subconscious with the imagery you have created will begin to grow just as your muscles grow by the repetitive action of lifting weights. Soon your positive imagery will be so strong that your belief system will accept this as reality before it has ever transpired as reality. There will be no difference between your chosen reality and your current state. Your belief system will accept each step and each day as a part of your path to success. Dare today to choose what you desire and the actions that support those desires.

Dealers, Promote Your Videos By Hand

Video Promotions

After watching an amazing video that a client had prepared for their business, I asked how she was going to promote it. She said she already had it set to get blasted out to all of the social networks and posted on all of the video sites. I buried my head in my hands.

There's a big difference between automated video promotion and manual promotion. For those creating massive numbers of videos of items such as inventory, it makes sense to automate the bulk. When it comes to high-quality videos that took time to create, it should be done by hand. Here's how:

Start with YouTube

Some would say that it's best to put videos on proprietary players or other video sites like Vimeo. For the most exposure possible, it's best to start with YouTube. Get it up there. Do the right research and craft the title, description, and tags appropriately. Make it the best possible YouTube video you can.

After it's up and running on YouTube, wait a day or two before uploading it to other sites or other venues (including Facebook). The more plays and likes a YouTube video gets, the more visible it will be in the important places such as YouTube search and on the search engines themselves. Focus all efforts on the original upload first.

Blast it on social

There are two phases to this part. First, get it out on Facebook, Google+, YouTube, and Pinterest. If it's a truly important video that has some social sharing legs to it (i.e., not an ad for your store), invest in getting it exposed.

Once it's up on the important networks, set your calendar or put it in your social scheduling tools to post again in the future - a month or so is fine - as long as it's something that's not too timely.

Blog about it

This isn't just a matter of getting it out there on a stand-alone blog post with a quick caption. If it's an important video, talk about it. Write a story surrounding it. Encourage your readers to watch AND share it.

The blog post can then be promoted a week or so later on the social media sites similar to how you promoted it as a direct video in the first place.

Upload it

You should already have it out on the other video sites and possibly on your website's internal video player. Now, it's time to get it uploaded directly to Facebook. Don't spam it - if you posted it to Facebook from YouTube one week then followed up the next week by promoting your blog post, wait another week before uploading it to Facebook.

There's nothing wrong with repeating a message, but do it in a way that doesn't seem spammy. When you upload it to Facebook, don't do it with the same exact title and description that you put on YouTube or in your blog post.

Rinse, repeat

Unless it's a timely video, you can do the same thing (other than re-uploading it to the video sites) a month or more later. You can even write a brand new blog post about it. Get it out on Tumblr. Refer to it in other discussions or blog posts that aren't centering around the video itself.

Video promotions are best done manually if you want to maximize the exposure. It takes more time but it can yield exponentially more views if you do it right and have a solid video to promote.

Here's an infographic that discusses video tactics even further:

You Can Make Things Happen

Thoreau once said, “Things don’t change, people do.” If things are to happen, you must make them happen. Good people and businesses always make things happen. Let’s look at the essential rules of making things happen.

Rule 1 – Always have a CEO attitude – You must start by taking responsibility for all things both good and bad. Accept that your company signs your check and you fill in the numbers. Your own personal philosophy, which is determined strictly by choice and your own free will, determines your first step in success or failure.

Rule 2 – Every business operates two businesses: People and Marketing. If you are great with people but don’t have people to speak to, you fail. Marketing has become essential to all sales people.

Rule 3 – Lead generation equals dollar creation – The more leads you generate the more money you earn. How do you create leads? Develop a marketing web – Draw a small circle on a piece of paper and put the name of your company in the middle. (Your company, not the one that signs your check). Now draw lines in different directions that look like spokes coming out of the circle. Label each spoke as a source of leads. (Example: walk-ins, incoming sales calls, referrals, repeats, be-backs, service, networking, prospecting etc.) Notice that each spoke can have multiple spokes that sprout from it.

Rule 4 – Add value first – The perception of price is always in relation to the value perceived. Perception is reality for your customers. What do they perceive to be the value in your offer, product, you, or the business? To create value you must TLC—think like a customer--and then take action.

Rule 5 – Give HFG - hope for gain. People always want something better than what they have. It’s human nature. Hope for Gain follows the pleasure versus pain rule of life. People act to either find pleasure or avoid pain. Hope for gain moves people toward pleasure.

Rule 6 – Offer risk reversal - Take away your customers’ risk and it creates urgency in the eyes of the customer. You must lower the barriers of entry that discourage customer traffic. Risk reversal allows your customer to avoid pain.

Rule 7 – Provide leverage – Hope for gain and risk reversal provide leverage for people to take action. You must always be thinking of ways that your customers can get excited about contacting you now. Urgency, emotions, social proof, incentives and testimonials all provide leverage.

Rule 8 – Facts tell; stories sell- Stories add the most important element of sales and marketing. People think in pictures. People relate to stories that they can see themselves in the staring role. Make them the star. People will avoid advertising and marketing on purpose, but they will react to a good story.

Rule 9 – Utilize the law of obligation and reciprocation – In sales or marketing, you must be willing to add the wow factor. You must be willing to give people extra service, extra offers, extra emotion, extra humor, extra enthusiasm... extra everything, until the customer feels an overwhelming obligation to give you a chance.

Now let me give you some examples to create leads using these rules.

1. – Record a two to five minute be-back CD that you give to each customer who doesn’t buy a car and ask them to play it on the way home. On the CD, thank the customer for the opportunity, tell them your SDP--specific defining proposition- to get them excited about doing business with you and purchase your product.

2. Nice trade call – Every time you take a nice trade-in, call at least 20 of your sold customers and let them in on a secret. Let them know about the beautiful vehicle you now have and how it hasn’t been put all the way though service and clean-up yet. Let them know you’re calling a few of your preferred customers about the newly acquired vehicle. If they don’t want it, ask them who might be.

3. Create affiliations – Who does business with whom you want to do business? Always think of how you can add value to them first. What can you do to help their business? Offer coupon swaps. Offer to create a coupon for a two for one special at their restaurant. In return, ask that they distribute a coupon from your business.

4. Offer a free program – Offer a thirty minute program to some of the varying associations on how to buy a vehicle. Take brochures with coupons offering value that would make them take action to receive something of value from you. Create a lead first.

5. Postcards – Postcards are cheap. You can send to targeted markets, with a targeted message, such as, “Employee Purchase Program – Buy a vehicle for what I would pay!”

6. Val-Packs – Postcard advertising made even cheaper.

7. Orphan Owners - Call every orphan owner and offer them something of value. If you offer all the clients who’ve not been contacted the chance to do business with you, a large percentage will consider doing more business with you in the future.

8. FSBO call – Call everyone selling your brand of vehicle and ask them about their trade. Offer to get an appraisal and to help them purchase their new vehicle.

9. Create a Free Special Report – “How to buy a vehicle” – You could combine your postcards with this message and once you’ve created a lead through their response by fax, phone or email, you can follow up after sending your special report.

10. Create your own web site – Put your web site address on all your business cards, mailing, materials etc. Put your picture, biography, special offers, recipe of the month, etc. Make people go to your site for a special offer.

John Wooden said, “Don’t let what you can’t do interfere with what you can do.” You can’t change economies, but you can work daily to change your actions. A little extra effort put forth everyday will help build a successful business. Make it happen!

2014 Corvette Stingray

When something is as hot as an iconic automotive legend hitting dealerships across America, it often doesn't need very much additional buzz created for it. Some would say that this is the case for the new Corvette C7 Stingray, just now landing at showrooms.

I think they're making a mistake by not blasting this machine out there to everyone in the world. It's that cool, but you wouldn't know it if you're following them on social media.

There are two possible reasons for this. It could simply be a corporate thing. Social media departments at large companies are often disconnected from the rest of the company. You can usually see this when a Facebook page is dominated by feel-good stories, customer experiences, nostalgia, and the occasional advertising. Most of the time these types of posts were pre-approved by the legal and marketing departments well before the posts went out and the results are good, not great, but at least they're safe.

The other possible reason is that they simply do not believe that the car has enough mass appeal to hit their social media presence prominently. This is a huge mistake, an amateur one, really, if that is the case. Social media is not about general appeal. It's about what's hot. It's about what's amazing. There's a reason that Ferrari has a more prominent social media footprint that Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, or any of the other major brands. It's not that more people drive Ferraris. These people that are liking the pages aren't going to Ferrari club meetings, nor do they have one sitting in their garage. This is social media and in many ways it's a reflection of our desired lifestyle rather than our real one.

If Chevrolet wants to really get people's attention and make a splash on social media, they need to take advantage of this monster of a car. It truly is an amazing piece of machinery, different and better than previous Corvettes. They need to drive this beast into the ground and ride it for as long as they can in order to take full advantage of the algorithmic benefits it would create.

The Corvette can go viral. The Cruze cannot.

Some Chevy dealers are getting it. Here's one video from Holiday Automotive that gives the right amount of attention to this machine. They aren't trying to sell it. They don't need to. Everything they have allocated is already sold. That's not the point. The point is that it's hot and they understand that.

If only their manufacturer understood as well.

I personally find the BEST professional articles on LinkedIn.  Hands down.

- Willis W.

Last year, I set out to come up with a single sentence that could guide both my career and personal decisions. It turned out to be,

Be generous and expert, trustworthy and clear, open-minded and adaptable, persistent and present."

Only after months of living by these words did I realize that all these elements came down to a single powerful habit, which is to start every interaction by thinking: help this person. Let me explain...

Generous means to start every personal interaction with three words in your head: help this person. When you answer the phone, when someone knocks on your door, when you get introduced to a new colleague, your first instinct should be to help that person. Yesterday I was driving my 14-year-old son back from a school event and I made an observation about the event that wasn't entirely positive. His response was, "How is that helping this person?"

That quick exchange taught me two things. It's not enough to say you are generous, you actually have to work hard every day to live that way. I'm trying hard, but it is challenging, I admit. But more importantly, I learned that my son now has these words in the front of his mind, and that is a very good thing.

Expert means to be talented enough in certain areas that you can help others in a meaningful manner. This is where many people completely miss the mark. The main reason to become a expert is not so you can make more money; this attitude will limit your potential. The main reason is so you can help more people, more often.

Trustworthy means to be someone others turn to both in times of need and of opportunity. In such moments, other people are especially vulnerable and they need to know you will not only respect their confidentiality but also deliver on your promises.

Clear means that you fully understand your role is to be someone who helps with a purpose. You aren't just a Good Samaritan; although your first thought is to help others, you also have a set of goals to achieve for yourself, your family and your organization. You make it easy for others to understand these goals. In this way, you will have the time to help others and still be able to accomplish what you need to do.

Here's a really tough one: open-minded means that you are willing to help people you initially might find unworthy of help. Yesterday at an event, a woman pushed right past my colleague and I - who were patiently waiting to talk with the host - to capture his attention. At first, my thoughts about her weren't too kind, but as we again waited our turn, it dawned on me that her behavior was perhaps generated by anxiety or a pressing need, and that she was probably in such a state of tunnelvision that it never even dawned on her that we were waiting. People in this state are the ones who need help the most.

Adaptable means that you are not just a helpful person with a hammer, trying to pound everything into better shape. When one approach doesn't work, you are willing to try others. Don't just tell someone, "Here's what I'd do in this situation." Think hard about the best strategy for helping them, given their personality, preferences and position.

Persistent means to be serious about helping others, and not just superficial. I'm not simply suggesting you start holding the door open for more people; I'm suggesting you become a force who helps other people in a substantive way. The people who need help the most won't be helped by a ten-second gesture.

Present means to pay attention to the people around you so that you can spot those who are struggling, confused or uncertain. Most of us try to put on a good face, and you need to see past the superficial layer of daily life.

ADD ALL THIS UP, and you become the type of person others love to have around them. You become someone who listens, who is genuinely interested in others, who is capable and dependable. Who you are - and how you approach the world - will change.

And now comes the personal payoff: you will be dramatically more capable of achieving your own purpose.

If you can remember and live by this sentence, you can achieve anything you set your mind to do. Anything.

Be generous and expert, trustworthy and clear, open-minded and adaptable, persistent and present."
